Hearing Aid Compatibility

The Federal Communications Commission updated the Hearing Aid Compatibility Act of 1988 to ensure the deaf and hard of hearing can use digital wireless devices.

The handsets listed below are compatible with Airvoice and have been tested and rated for Hearing Aid Compatibility. The Hearing Aid Compatibility Ratings are shown below as “M-Ratings” and “T-Ratings”. These M and T ratings can better assist hearing aid users to find a phone that best fits their needs.

M-Ratings and Hearing Aid Immunity
Phones that are less likely to generate any interference are those that have an M-Rating of M3 or M4.  An M3 or M4 rating meets the FCC requirements, but does not guarantee that the phone will be interference free. The higher the rating of the phone, the less likely it is to experience any interference. A phone that is not rated does not necessarily mean it will cause interference, but phones that are not rated are more likely to do so.

T-Ratings and Compatibility with Hearing Aids with Telecoils
Certain Hearing aids have a small, built in device which is known as a Telecoil. The Telecoil is for use with telephones and assistive learning devices.  If a phone has a T-rating of T3 or T4, it meets the FCC requirements and is more likely to work better for people who use hearing aids with telecoils. The T4 rating is higher and better than the T3 rating.

The Levels of Classification are as follows:
“Good” -Indicates the device has basic technology on entry level data speeds.
“Better”-Indicates the device has advanced technology and /or with advanced functionality.
“Best” -Indicates the device has new technology and/or with new functionality that can operate on faster data speeds.
